BOTTLE: I have never seen another artist create so many different variations and new concept designs for Jeannie’s bottle! Daryl has captured and created a home for a whole neighborhood of Djinn. Starting with the Blue Djinn’s bottle and working his way to a concept of Jeannie’s mother’s bottle. Not only are Daryl’s designs unique but the medium he uses for his concept bottles range from crystal accents to designs done entirely in glitter. All of the bottles are hand painted one of kind designs. Daryl paints all of his concept bottles on fine porcelain replica bottles. I would be hard pressed to pick a single design as my favorite as they all have such beauty in their concept. The first custom creation I received from Daryl was the Blue Djinn bottle and I was so captivated by it I commissioned him to reproduce the design on a Jim Beam bottle. These are the only porcelain bottles in my collection and I have avoided collecting any others. I find the size difference between the original Jim Beam bottle and replica bottles not to my liking. I have to say that Daryl has done a magnificent job in duplicating the Jim Beam bottle. Below is an illustration of the size difference between the Jim Beam and the porcelain replica. UPDATE: These bottles represent so much that is good about Daryl’s creativity and originality but, according to Daryl, the process of glazing the bottles resulted in some problems with paint properly adhering to some of them over time. Daryl assures me that he has rectified the situation and no longer glazes the ceramic bottles. My own experience was that I noticed something amiss on the mouth of the Celestial Djinn bottle. I lifted the stopper off and a strip of paint had adhered to the cork and just peeled away from the bottle like a glove. I then removed each bottle from the curio cabinet discovering the entire backside of the Flora Djinn bottle was laying on the glass shelf. Those are the worst of the problems but all of the ceramics are displaying similar deterioration to a lesser degree. To his credit Daryl offered to repaint the bottles but I declined. I am glad to know that Daryl will no longer be painting on ceramic bottles. |
