Michelle's First Season

BOTTLE:
When I saw the first photos of this bottle that Michelle was working on I must admit I became more excited about Jeannie’s bottle than I have been in years. As you know that pilot used a number of prop bottles and there were several different style bottles used for the initial promotion of the new series. There was but one bottle used for the first season, filmed in black and white, and this bottle is such an eerie replica! It is one thing to capture the designs of the first season prop but then to age the bottle so that it looks as though it has been tossed through the ocean on a two thousand year odyssey before falling in to Major Nelson’s hands is quite another story altogether. At left is a photo from the Profiles in History Auction Catalog. The original prop bottle from the first season of I Dream of Jeannie was purchased by the Comisar Collection as was a pilot bottle.

The final cap is to have a genuine 1956 Old Grand Dad Stopper which is one and the same as the replacement stopper used on the series. If you recall Major Nelson left the original stopper on the beach where he threw it. When he returned home and found he had an unexpected companion he hastily grabbed for the nearest thing on the bar and that was Old Grand Dad to the rescue. These stoppers are next to impossible to find. A few years ago on eBay you could find one in a box of stoppers for $5 now I have seen a single stopper go as high as $450!
