BACKGROUND: I first encountered Ian Daniel’s in 2001 when he was answering general IDOJ and bottle question via his website the Blue Djinn. Ian authored one of the most, if not the most detailed guide to painting your own Jeannie bottle that I have seen. The photo to the right is one of the photos included with his guide. Ian painted the full range of bottles but he garnered a lot of attention for his antique green washed first season bottle. There are still files on Ian’s AOL site but nothing seems to have been heard from him in well over two years.
BOTTLES: Ian’s design work is generally well executed and this would have been a very attractive first season bottle were it not for the green wash antique finish. The gold paint used in the design work has a good sheen where it can be seen and the bottle overall together with the cork is in excellent shape. The green wash antique effect is extremely overdone. The photos actually show this bottle better than it appears in that the designs are barely visible beneath the wash. The first season bottle certainly had an antique finish to it but nothing quite this heavy. Generally this bottle is a curiosity piece and token recollection to one of the more knowledgeable and good spirited Jeannie bottle artists. |
