Patrick aka homeliner

BACKGROUND:
I have two bottles from Patrick, a second season style and an original concept bottle representing Jeannie’s mother’s bottle. I purchased both bottles directly from Patrick. He used to sell a lot on eBay as homeliner but he has not run an auction since early 2002. His web site is still active at: http://home.earthlink.net/~homeline/bottlecollection.htm. Another bottle artist on eBay was selling similar style bottles but has also not had any activity in some time.

BOTTLES:
Patrick uses the deeper purple color for his base coat on the second season bottle and an ivory base coat for the mother’s bottle. Both base coats are custom mixed with opalescent pigment mixed in to give the bottle a more lustrous appearance that is nicely done.

Patrick is the only artist I have seen who used real gold leaf applied to mouth of the bottle and the gold in the arches. The effect is at first very enticing but it contrasts sharply to those portions of the bottle which are also gold but do not make use of the gold leaf.

Although Patrick’s bottles are entirely hand painted he did use decals for the design work on the arches. The decals appear to be the same as the ones Sharkkee used on his bottle but then they were painted over. The effect causes the design work to be inordinately raised above the surface of the bottle and like Sharkkee’s bottles they are beginning to show signs of peeling off. Additionally the sealant used is beginning to yellow giving the bottles a jaundiced look.

PROS:
The use of gold leaf combined with the custom mixed base coat makes the bottles show well in photos.

CONS:
Decals are a cheap shortcut which over time are peeling away leaving a mess. The gold leaf contrasts badly with other gold elements of the bottle design. There are stray flecks of paint in several places showing a lack of attention to detail.
