BOTTLE: This is the cleverest innovation and variation on Jeannie’s bottle I have ever seen or even heard about. I have raved to Roy on more than one occasion that he needs to make more of these windowed bottles but the process is very involved. On another note concerning Roy’s work is that he is one of two artists I know of who hand paints his base coat. You will notice that there appears to be a series of horizontal lines or ridges in the paint. These ridges result from turning the bottle while applying the paint and give the bottle a unique texture. Another first from Roy is that the paint is slowly baked onto the glass giving it a permanence and durability unlike any other bottle in my collection. In addition to the stained glass windows around the base of the bottle there are also skylights around the ring of the neck of the bottle. No modern Jeannie would be without these little amenities I am sure! DISHES: In addition to this unique bottle the set included one title plate, three regular plates, four bowls and four goblets with the cartoon Jeannie on one side and the Blue Djinn on the other side. I think it is appropriate that these two stay at opposite sides! LIGHTING THE BOTTLE: Please note that the light streaming through the stained glass window effect on this bottle is produced by shining a high powered halogen spot light from behind the bottle and that the bottle does not light up from inside. I have had one inquiry already about what kind of bulb the bottle has inside of it! The photo at the right shows how I set up the light for this effect. Most of the time I don’t get to enjoy this effect as it is too cumbersome for me to light the bottle in its display case! |
