Something About Hajji

So you want to know a bit more about who is behind this site and why I decided to do this in the first place?

Well I think my story is fairly common. I grew up with I Dream of Jeannie and I was always fascinated and captivated by Jeannie’s bottle. I begged and pleaded with my parents to get me a bottle but none were to be had for neither love nor money. I guess I secretly thought that if I had Jeannie’s bottle then I would have a Jeannie too and I could obtain at least one wish. My father moved heaven and earth to try and get me a bottle but he couldn’t. He did the next best thing and arranged through a family friend for me to meet Barbara Eden and she kindly let me see her bottle. I have to say I was awestruck to see Jeannie’s bottle up close and personal. That was more years ago than I care to think of but it is indelibly impressed on my mind.

One day I was talking with a coworker about childhood dreams we started talking about I Dream of Jeannie and the bottle. She said why not check eBay I bet you can find a bottle there! I did that and there were so many bottles listed at that time from half a dozen different artists so the next question was how to know which bottle to bid on. Frankly they all looked beautiful in the auction photos and there were so many variations I didn’t know where to begin, all I did know was that I wanted a Jeannie bottle and I wanted it to be the most true to the original bottle that there was. As with most people I even considered painting my own. Being of some means I decided to buy one of everything that was listed on eBay as well as artist’s listed on the internet. Now I have over 30 bottles to show for my efforts.

Here is the funny thing though, the first bottle I bid on and the first one to arrive was from Abigailrose aka Michelle at www.dreamyjeanniebottles.com and I could have just stopped right there. It was truly stunning and it put me in seventh heaven. I picked it up from the post office on my way to work and opened it right there in the parking lot before heading out on my commute. It was the talk of the office that day and it now has a special place in my home reserved solely for her bottles. For those who wonder, yes I do have a bottle shrine and that is shrine not shine!

In the days that followed more bottles arrived and then I was even more convinced that Michelle had created the bottle I remembered. I was floored as I opened each subsequent package to see sticker bottles and things that looked like they had been painted in a splatter barrel. Some had the designs all wrong, others used model airplane paint and had sticky parts where the paint had not yet dried. Still others had the wrong colors or a combination of all the above. Later on I commissioned bottles from some artists and I continued to bid on works that seemed more unique or imaginative. Most of the time these other bottles were very disappointing but a few gems did emerge such as RoyLcraft’s bottle with a stained glass window effect, baked paints and a complete set of matching plates, bowls and glasses or Daryl James’ with his Mirage bottle or endlessly creative original design bottles. I also, recently received a first season bottle by Dan Moyer who painted the bottles for the AT&T commercial and that was really a treat too.

Now why create this site? Well at first I was just going to put up a little site that showcased my collection as a way of sharing them with family and friends. Then a friend of mine told me about the Yahoo! Jeannie group, groups.yahoo.com/group/jeannie/, and I saw a bunch of posts on there from someone who sells Jeannie bottles. They were in an uproar about a review site someone had posted on Geocities that reviewed bottles so I went to have a look. The reviews seemed honest and to the point and the artists were rated but this individual wasn’t at all happy with the rating they received. I thought about the amount of money I could have saved if someone had done a review site and then I thought it would be a natural extension of my collection to share my own opinions since I probably have the largest and most varied collection of Jeannie bottles out there. If anyone has more show me! So it is my hope that this site will save someone a lot of searching and expensive disappointment. All the artist’s photos look great but too often the photo you see is not of the bottle you get or the camera hides the true look of the bottle and I speak from vast experience here.

Finally, this person who was so upset about a valid review of their bottles was threatening three other artists, saying that they have an exclusive license to sell Jeannie bottles and that they were going to take legal action against these other artists. They have told so many lies about licenses, patents and their own product it just curls my hair. They have since posted disclaimers about their licenses and stripped their claims of patents off of their auctions. When I secured the URL for this site someone out there tried to shut it down, then I received threatening e-mail from someone pretending to be two different people. The funny thing is that the e-mail from the two different people was traced to the same computer with the same IP address. Now it is possible that these two make use of the same computer for their nefarious ways but the poor quality of writing and the threats are so similar that I am fairly convinced they are one and the same person.

I don’t have a bottle from this person and I never will unless someone gives me one and I didn’t run fast enough to get away from them so you won’t see any review here of their work. I personally don’t think it is fair to judge someone’s work unless I have seen it first hand. I own every bottle from every artist that I review here and I think that is the fairest thing to do. I will say however that I don’t like bullies or liars or frauds and there are some of them out there so please be careful.

In the mean time enjoy my collection and take my opinion for what it is worth. I wish you all the success and joy of a Jeannie bottle and happiness now and in the future.
