Celebrities pitch in to help cash-strapped Motion Picture Home By Kevin Modesti, Staff Writer
BEVERLY HILLS - Movie and TV stars responded to a call for action Saturday, not on a set but at a charity auction to raise money for residents of the financially troubled Motion Picture & Television Fund nursing home in Woodland Hills.
The event billed as an "emergency fundraiser" drew about 200 celebrities and Hollywood memorabilia-seekers to the tree-shrouded backyard of actors Joseph Bologna and Renee Taylor.
They hoped to raise $100,000 in the auction, which began with a painting by Phyllis Diller selling for $500 and a genie bottle signed by Barbara Eden going for $1,600.

Today, January 30, 2010 marks the third anniversary of the passing of Sidney Sheldon. Not a time for tears or sorrows as we look back on a life grandly lived. Mr. Sheldon's family has asked that we celebrate his life and accomplishments more than we mourn his passing. Although it is difficult to believe that he is no longer with us, the great body of work he gave to the world remains as a fitting testament to a rich full life.
With laughter and joy we can celebrate the wit and humor that Mr. Sheldon brought to everything he undertook. For Jeannie Journal readers that focuses so much on I Dream of Jeannie and the wonderful characters he created. It is hard to characterize the vast work of a man such as Mr. Sheldon but if any attempt is made then it is to say that he featured strong and unique woman in uncommon situations. He resisted the pressures to be trite or to conform to common ideals and forged new frontiers and new insights for his characters.
Every thing he did and wrote was meant to captivate his audience, to quote Mr. Sheldon...

Cast and Crew: "The Brass Bottle" Now Available on Amazon.com!
According to News Blaze, CreateSpace (an Amazon.com company) has an agreement with Universal Studios Home Entertainment to release rare movies from their vault as part of their "Universal Vault Series" using DVD on demand technology. One of those movies is the 1964 movie The Brass Bottle starring Burl Ives, Tony Curtis and, of course, our beautiful Barbara Eden! This movie is about a man who finds a big burly genie in a brass bottle and the wackiness that ensues. BE plays Tony Curtis' girlfriend. The movie is considered the inspiration for IDOJ.
It is only available on Amazon.com and has a list price of $15.99. Keep in mind it is a DVD-R disc and may not play in all players.
TV, film veteran Barbara Eden hosts ballroom dancing spectacular Hit the floor with local ballroom classes
By BETSY PRICE • The News Journal • January 14, 2010
There's one little thing that Barbara Eden will not be doing in "Ballroom With a Twist," the dancing spectacular that opens Tuesday at the DuPont Theatre in Wilmington.
Dancing.
"No, no, no," says a heartily laughing Eden, who didn't hesitate to pop out of a magic bottle wearing a fetching pink Aladdin-inspired outfit on "I Dream of Jeannie" from 1965 to 1970. "I would not dare. Oh, my god. No."
Instead, she hosts the show, which will include dancers who will be familiar to fans of "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance." Among them are: Dmitry Chaplin, Chelsie Hightower, Jonathan Roberts, Anna Trebunskaya and Louis van Amstel of "Dancing With the Stars," as well as Ashleigh and Ryan DiLello from "So You Think You Can Dance."
Eden was asked by producer Scott Stander, a longtime acquaintance, to host the show when it ran in Chicago, and she loved it.
"It's absolutely stunning," she says. "I'm a huge fan of the ballroom dancing shows on TV. ... I love them. But to see them in person is a whole different thing. It's very impressive."

Below is a link for the entire Jan. 8, 2010 New York Times article, The Role of a Lifetime by Neil Genzlinger, in which Barbara Eden and other stars are interviewed (The link allows the pictures that accompany the article to be shown). Beneath the link is the opening portion of the article and Barbara's interview.
IN the age of the character-driven television series, there was a notable passing in 2009: “Monk,” the Emmy-winning USA show about an obsessive-compulsive crime-solver, went off the air in December after eight seasons. The series, with Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk, was one of the earliest examples of what has since become common fare: programs built around characters who are distinctive misfits. Some of the most obvious include “House” on Fox, with Hugh Laurie as an irascible doctor; “Psych” on USA, with James Roday solving crimes via fake psychic powers; “The Closer” on TNT, with Kyra Sedgwick as a deputy police chief tackling major crimes in Los Angeles.
These are the types of roles that can follow an actor around for life. “Do the limp,” you can hear fans urging Mr. Laurie 20 years from now. For some this might seem like an albatross; being so identified with one role might limit future possibilities. Or is it, rather — as Monk might say — a blessing and a curse?
If you want to find out what the actors behind today’s memorable TV characters can expect in the future, ask the stars of an earlier era. Here are some of their insights and anecdotes regarding life after a signature role.

Jeannie, ‘I Dream of Jeannie,’ 1965-70
Barbara Eden sees a lot of magic lamps and old bottles when she’s signing autographs. The most enterprising fans, though, bring her one particular bottle, a Jim Beam decanter. It was just such a bottle (suitably painted with gold vines) that was the home of the character she played four decades ago, the genie in “I Dream of Jeannie.”
