Today, September 28, 2009 marks the sixth year since www.jeanniebottlereview.com went online with one page and around 32 bottles. When the full site opened with reviews and shrines and a bit of this and that there were four featured artists as there are today but not all the same ones. As time has passed and my collection has grown nearly six fold a few newer, or at least newer to me, artists came along and garnered a top spot. No artist recently has produced anything close to the quality and artistry of the now featured artists. To be sure, a few artists like Callo and Dennis Wolfe are amazing and deserve more recognition for their achievements.
The backdrop of the Jeannie Bottle Review opening was a bleak picture as far as Jeannie Bottle information goes. There were few photos of the original prop bottles used in the series or the reunion movies, the photos of replica bottles were likewise few and relatively small. Some artists used the same photos repeatedly rather than taking photos of each bottle they had for sale. Still others produced photos that made their work look far better than it did in person. The Jeannie Bottle Review website has a two-fold purpose to educate people on things to look for when purchasing or commissioning a Jeannie bottle and to honor those artists whose work is surpassingly great.
Over the years nearly a half million people have visited the Jeannie Bottle Review, whether to admire the photos or to prepare for buying their first to twentieth bottle. Many of these visitors have written with questions or observations, most have written back after making their purchase to share their experience with an artist and their work. To launch the Jeannie Bottle Review I ran a drawing that garnered a veritable ton of entries.

The Jeannie Bottle Review has not been without controversy or its detractors in the last couple of years...

As many of you know the amazing Jeannie Bottle Traveling case made its debut on the Jeannie Journal back in July of 2006 to a great deal of interest and sold on eBay for $600. I failed to succeed in that auction and I was very crestfallen after all who needs a Jeannie bottle traveling case more than me! Fortunately the interest generated in this wonderful traveling case by both the auction and the Jeannie Journal convinced the dynamic duo of brother and sister to produce another. Needless to say I was even more determined.
Thankfully I won the auction, an increasingly difficult thing since opening the Jeannie Journal. I checked almost daily to see if it had arrived and a week to the day there it was. It was almost more than I could do to keep from opening it in my car. Alright so I did open it right there in the car! Not only was it well packed it was in its own Jeannie bottle traveling case traveling bag hand sown of padded plastic securely enveloping it. One peel of the plastic and out it came!
Well this article is long overdue in that I have to tell everyone what an absolute treasure this is and one not to be missed by anyone with a bottle that might travel or to use as a backdrop to any fine bottle collection. First off I somehow thought the case was really big, much bigger than the bottle but it isn’t. The case looks tiny in my hands and matches the shape of the bottle with enough allowance for protection. There is a bit more allowance in the replica than in the original. The case itself is made of molded fiberglass much sturdier than the original and a pleasing brown beige color. The hinges and clasp are solid and old looking while the handle is soft and padded attached with more antique looking hardware. There is a noticeable seam around the bottle case so don’t go swimming off Waikiki with it!
Footnotes:IDOJ4ever has another marvelous Jeannie Bottle Traveling Case on eBay! This auction ends October 1: eBay Auction # 270033697756
